Motorists are being offered a new in-car electronic gadget to remind them of their annual MoT tests.
Figures from VOSA show that every year an estimated eight million drivers in Britain fail to get their vehicles MoT tested on time and run the risk of having theircar insurance policy invalidated.
Launched by the Good Garage Scheme, the new Electronic Reminder Unit (ERU) has green, amber and red indicators to remind motorists of approaching test renewal dates.
It is available at Good Garage Scheme's nearly 2,900 member garages and workshops.
Phil Dugmore, technical manager of the Good Garage Scheme, said: "The importance of car Servicing and MoT tests cannot be stressed enough.
"There are obvious safety issues and, in the case of an annual MoT test, there is a legal obligation on the motorist to ensure their vehicle is in a roadworthy condition."
The ERU, he said, "is a smart yet simple way of reminding motorists when essential maintenance work needs to be carried out".
