The top prize in motoring magazine Auto Express' annual tyre test has been awarded to Continental.
After nine stringent tests on the leading brands available in the UK, the premium manufacturer received the 'Best Buy' honour.
The country's favoured tyre size (205/55R16) fitted to many family hatchbacks including the VW Golf, Honda Civic and Ford Focus, was tested. The popular Audi A3 was picked to test the tyres.
Each tyre's performance in wet and dry handling, wet cornering, aquaplaning, dry and wet braking, rolling resistance, as well as price and cabin noise were evaluated.
ContiPremiumContact 2 from Continental secured top marks in the wet cornering, dry and wet braking tests, and came first overall.
The magazine said: "The best all round tyre money can buy is the Continental. The PremiumContact 2 will perform anywhere and it deserves to take the crown for the German maker."
Product manager for Continental Tyres, Scott Benbow, said: "We are delighted that the ContiPremiumContact 2 has been recognised in this prestigious test.
"Before we launch our tyres, we rigorously test them to make sure that the consumer gets the best performance and safety possible and these results prove it."
