Child 'safe' after car theft ordeal

Police in Wales have launched a search for a man who stole a car in the Park Grove area of Cardiff and sped off with a young child inside.

The man, thought to be white, aged about 30, wearing a waist-length blue coat, blue jeans and light coloured scarf, stole the black BMW with the child inside before speeding off towards the New Theatre.

Police found the car in the early hours of the evening and the child was reunited safe and well with family members.

Chief Superintendent Josh Jones said: "This was a very serious incident which prompted a full South Wales Police response from officers within and outside the city, joined by our partner agencies including Cardiff Council.

"Everyone involved in the search was desperate to find the child and officers due to finish their shift remained on duty to ensure the child was found safe and well in just over an hour of us receiving the call.

"I would like to reassure the community that we are continuing to investigate the incident and are keen to trace the person who stole the vehicle.

"I would appeal to anyone with information to contact us."
