Chevrolet debuts Sonic supermini

American car manufacturer Chevrolet unveiled its latest model at the North American International Auto Show, a sport performance version of the Sonic supermini.

The car is confirmed for production in the United States but so far there is no confirmation for sales in Britain. However, the Sonic model is loosely based on the Chevrolet Aveo currently on sale in Britain and this new version comes with several upgrades on the older Aveo.

A turbocharged 1.4-litre engine, combined with stiffened suspension, disc brakes and a sports exhaust system, means that the Sonic should be nippy on the roads. A higher specification is available in the shape of the RS model, which adds an infotainment system, aluminium pedals, sports seats and a premium steering wheel.

Alongside the Sonic supermini, Chevrolet also debuted two concept cars at the automobile show in Detroit, inviting drivers to help it design the interiors.
