Checa wins world superbike title

Carlos Checa has won his first World Superbike Championship title with a commanding performance at Magny-Cours.

The Spaniard crossed the finish line first in Race 1 of the French round of the 2011 World Superbike season on his Team Althea Racing Ducati 1198.

After sealing his maiden World Championship title and Ducati's 14th Rider's title, Checa went on to prove his class with a victory in Race 2.

He now holds a 107-point lead over his nearest rival.

Ducati also succeeded in clinching its 17th Manufacturers' World Superbike Championship, as well as the Superstock 1000 FIM Cup Rider's and Manufacturers' titles.

The 2011 World Superbike Championship season will finish on October 16 at Portimao, Portugal.
