Car servicing costs on rise in UK

A new study reveals the cost of getting a car serviced has increased above the rate of inflation, with some drivers at a showroom in Essex having to shell out £202.21 an hour.

According to data collected by Warranty Direct, on an average, garages are now charging £80.44 an hour, which is up on the £74.82 service charge during the same period in 2010.

The survey found, franchised garages are 57% more expensive than using the services of an independent operator.

Customers pay £95.83 an hour for services at branded garages compared to the average £60.68 charged by independent options.

Duncan McClure Fisher of Warranty Direct said: "Drivers might have hoped there'd be some reprieve from the staggering costs of motoring, but no, they're getting clobbered yet again."
