A man has said that he may have accidentally started a fire on a Scandinavian passenger ferry carrying 651 people by causing a short circuit while recharging his electric vehicle.
An ordinary extension lead, used by Dane Soeren Ekelund, may not have been fitted properly to a special recharge socket, leading to the blaze which caused damage to a number of vehicles.
He said the short circuit may have been the result of high humidity on the car deck. The incident must have affected Ekelund'scar insurance policy.
Investigators are looking into the cause of the fire, while recharging the of electric cars is temporarily banned by ferry operator DFDS on its ships.
The fire took place when Ekelund was recharging his Nissan car on the deck. Although no-one was injured, three vehicles and a truck trailer suffered damage.
