Budget cuts are taking their toll on public transport after it was revealed that plans for a park-and-ride scheme in Hereford have been "placed on hold".
The decision was made by Herefordshire Council in order to protect funds assigned for road safety and highway maintenance after their annual transport budget was reduced by £570,000.
Councillor Brian Wilcox, Herefordshire's cabinet member for highways and transportation, said the decision would not affect a park-and-ride service scheduled to operate in the run-up to Christmas.
Councillor Wilcox said: "Unfortunately, I have had to put the proposed Hereford park-and-ride project on hold pending development of longer-term strategic park-and-ride proposals associated with land use planning.
"If the scheme had gone ahead, there would have been a substantial revenue implication year-on-year to subsidise the scheme."
