A new survey by car wash company IMO has revealed a north-south divide when it comes to the cleanest motorists.
Fewer than half of people in the south of England (45%) were found to wash their vehicle at least once a month, compared with six in 10 Scottish people (60%).
The poll of 1,139 UK motorists also suggests that drivers in northern England are the least concerned about their car's appearance, with just over one in three (35%) washing their cars to make a good impression on others.
Nationwide, just under half (49%) of drivers wash their car at least once a month, with 44% of female drivers doing so and 52% of men.
Motorists in the West and East Midlands are most keen to do their own car cleaning, at 63%, but based on age, drivers aged 65 and over are most likely to do the job themselves.
Overall, more than half (55%) of UK drivers wash their car themselves.
