American R&B singer Bobby Brown has been arrested north of Los Angeles after police suspected him of driving under the influence, officials said.
California Highway Patrol Officer Mike Harris said the 43-year-old was detained on Monday afternoon when he failed a field sobriety test.
Mr Harris added that Mr Brown was initially stopped by another patrol officer who saw him using his mobile phone without the required hands-free unit while driving.
The officer pulled him over and then noticed that the singer, who is the ex-husband of the late soul singer Whitney Houston and founder of US soul group New Edition, seemed to be intoxicated.
Motorists in the US are not allowed to talk on a hand-held mobile phone while driving as doing so is found to significantly increase the risk of accident, which could also lead to highercar insurance premiums.
It was later announced that Bobby Brown was released from prison after he paid a 5,000 US dollar bail.
