BMW is to introduce its Munich-based car-sharing scheme in Berlin - with plans to extend it to the UK - according to Tony Douglas, the German carmaker's marketing innovation manager.
Under the current scheme, people who enrol themselves with BMW dealers are given access to 300 1 Series models which are parked at various points across Munich.
A mobile phone app will help locate the nearest car, which can be started up using a PIN code that is provided to the user.
Mr Douglas said the manufacturer is now considering bringing the scheme to London, Birmingham, Manchester and other cities in the UK, as part of its move to invest more in mobility services.
As well as the car-sharing scheme, BMW has also invested in 'My London Way', which advises on the best route to take through the city with the help of traffic cameras, and parking website ParkAtMyHouse.com.
