Motoring journalists have crowned the BMW i8 hybrid sports Performance Car of the Year and UK Car of the Year 2015.
A panel of 27 top motoring journalists decide the winners of 12 categories in the UK Car of the Year Awards, before landing on an overall winner.
There hasn't been a hybrid model quite as good as the i8, according to the managing director of the awards John Challen. Mr Challen, also editor of the ukcoty.co.uk website, says the i8 truly is a game-changer and has a special hybrid powertrain.
It shows that not all electrically powered cars are dull, the Telegraph's Paul Hudson says, while Parkers' Graeme Lambert says the i8 shows cars can be both eco-conscious and exciting.
Just over half of the judges chose the i8 as the overall winner above the likes of the Citroen C4 Cactus (Best Small Hatch), Renault Twingo (Best City Car), Rolls-Royce Ghost (Best Luxury Car) and Volkswagen Passat (Best Estate Car).
The other winners in the individual categories were the Skoda Fabia (Best Supermini), Ford Mondeo (Best Family Car), Mercedes-Benz C-Class (Best Executive Car), BMW 2 Series Active Tourer (Best MPV), Porsche Macan (Best 4x4), Jaguar F-TYPE (Best Coupe) and the Porsche Boxster GTS (Best Open Top Car).
