Don Wales, the grandson of record-breaking racing motorist Sir Malcolm Campbell, will attempt to break the UK land speed record for an electric vehicle at Pendine Sands, in Carmarthenshire, South Wales.
The current UK electric land speed record of 137mph was set by Wales 10 years ago.
At this weekend's event, the 50-year-old is hoping to take his Bluebird Electric past the 150mph mark.
Wales said: "This really is the start of a two or three-year campaign with a target of 500mph."
While his late grandfather achieved a world land speed record for combustion engine at Pendine Sands in 1924, his uncle Donald Campbell set the world water speed record years later.
Wales's 19-year-old son Joe will also be driving Bluebird Electric in an attempt to smash the UK electric land speed records over the quarter-mile and 500-metre distance.
