Biofuels campaigner freed from jail

London-based eco activist Andy Pag, who has been touring the globe in a biofuel-powered bus, has been released from an Indian jail after his arrest over the illegal use of a satellite phone.

Pag was arrested in January during the Asian leg of his journey for using an unlicensed satellite phone in India.

His lawyer, Prateek Kasliwal, said Pag was not aware that he required a permit to use the device in the country.

A court in Ajmer town in Rajasthan state fined him 1,000 rupees (£13.30) for breaching wireless and telegraphy laws and ordered his release from prison.

Pag, who holds dual British and Italian citizenship, has been campaigning against the use of fossil fuels with his around-the-world trip in a bus that runs on vegetable oil.

He started off from London in September and has been detailing his experiences in a blog.
