A German car-making giant has launched the first three-cylinder vehicle in its 83-year history.
Audi-loving motorists buying a car will also be able to make road tax savings with the new A1 TFSI.
This turbocharged 1.0-litre model is exempt from the duty, so clean is its latest petrol engine. It offers 67.3mpg economy and 97g/km emission levels.
Small but sprightly, this supermini-sized vehicle boasts 94bhp and can summon torque of 118lb/ft when a bit of oomph is required.
The A1 stable, which includes the A1 Sportback, begins at £14,315. Upgrading to the Sport model sees a price hike to £16,290 with a further £620 for the five-door version.
Electric front-of-car windows, alloy wheels, retractable media interface lay-out, CD player, iPod connection and electric mirrors all come as standard.
Sport models come with alloy wheels measuring 16 inches, sports suspension and seats and state-of-the-art digital facilities.
