Audi is making a lighter GT version of its R8 Spyder supercar to go on sale next year.
Motorists will be able catch an early glimpse of the brand new R8 GT Spyder at the Le Mans 24-hour race in June this year.
The car will be powered by a modified version of the R8's V10 producing 553bhp. It will take under four seconds to go from 0-62mps, achieving a maximum speed of nearly 200mph.
Compared with the previous versions of R8, the new GT Spyder edition will be around 100 kg lighter.
Many of the heavier parts of the standard car body and interior will get lightweight replacements.
For example, the windscreen surround will be made of carbon fibre and the motorised rear spoiler will make way for a fixed one.
The R8 GT Spyder is expected to be showcased at the Frankfurt motor show in September.
It is due to go on sale in spring 2012 with a likely price tag of around £150,000.
