Audi A3 gets five-star safety score

The Audi A3 is officially one of the safest cars around after the Euro NCAP consortium gave it the maximum five-star rating for passive crash safety.

Top marks were awarded for frontal and side impact collisions on the driver and passenger side and its child safety was also praised, with Euro NCAP highlighting the seat belt reminder for the rear seats as well as the front ones.

And the A3 also performs particularly well when it comes to pedestrian safety, with standard halogen or LED daytime running lights making the car more visible to those on foot.

Other factors like the standard rest recommendation function that is built into the Driver's Information System, the optional speed limit display and adaptive cruise control with pre sense front also help to make the A3 one of the safest models around.

And the multi-collision brake, which comes as standard and received the 2012 Yellow Angel award from German motoring organisation ADAC, also helps to minimise the damage.

The safety score adds even more to the popularity of models like the Audi A3 2.0TDI.
