Actor Ryan Thomas, who is in TV soap Coronation Street, has kept his driving licence despite being convicted for leaving the scene of an accident when he crashed his car.
Thomas, 25, who plays builder Jason Grimshaw in the show, skidded on a pool of water and hit crash barriers in Manchester city centre in October last year. Passers-by took photographs of Thomas leaving the scene of the crash in a taxi.
At Manchester Magistrates' Court on Monday, the actor admitted failing to stop at the scene of an accident and failing to report an accident.
Celebrity lawyer Nick Freeman, dubbed Mr Loophole because he regularly secures acquittals for high-profile defendants in cases which are apparently watertight, defended Thomas. The actor faced a maximum of a driving ban and six-month jail sentence, but was instead fined £2,020 and handed five penalty points for his driving licence.
His lawyer told magistrates that Thomas had called police and planned to wait for them but he became "intimidated" by fans taking photographs, so he caught a taxi and went home.
