The Audi A3 offers the best second-hand value for car buyers, a survey has revealed.
In an Auto Trader study of the top 10 most popular car purchases in Britain the German hatchback was found to lose the least in value over 12 months.
AutoTrader.co.uk wanted to discover which of the country's most popular buys offered the best return after being owned for a year.
To find this they compared the asking price on the AutoTrader website in July 2010 with the original price in August 2009.
The Audi A3, Britain's sixth most popular new car purchase in 2009, lost just seven per cent of its original value over 12 months. The most popular vehicle of 2009, Ford's Fiesta, lost 23 per cent of it original asking price while the car that AutoTrader.co.uk users voted the decade's best in late 2009, the Ford Focus, lost 39 per cent of its original value in the first year.
With the Audi A3 retaining the most value it could save drivers spending excessively on repairs or on theircar insurance.
Britain's top ten most popular vehicles lost the following percentages in their first year:
:: Ford Fiesta - 23 per cent
:: Ford Focus - 39 per cent
:: Vauxhall Corsa - 10 per cent
:: Vauxhall Astra - 45 per cent
:: Volkswagen Golf - 26 per cent
:: Audi A3 - 7 per cent
:: Peugeot 207 - 20 per cent
:: Vauxhall Insignia - 34 per cent
:: Honda Jazz - 18 per cent
:: Vauxhall Vectra Life - 54 per cent
