Britain’s cheapest car makes an exceptionally tempting proposition for first-time buyers. The price speaks for itself, but its real appeal lies in the fact that it buys a decent-sized hatchback with very respectable room in both the back and the boot. Moreover, you need not worry about it breaking down on the way home: underneath the skin the important bits are all made by its parents: the Renault/Nissan Alliance.
There are some catches: the style-vacuum design, the minimal equipment levels of the base model (even the radio is extra), an expensive tax disc thanks to high CO2 and only four air bags as standard – but in terms of metal for your money, it is still Britain’s biggest bargain, and by a mile.
