Terms and Conditions

  1. These terms and conditions apply to the RAC Road Safety Animation Schools Challenge (“the Promotion”) and entry to the Promotion is acceptance of these terms and conditions. Therefore please read these carefully.
  2. No purchase is necessary to enter the Promotion.
  3. The promoter of this Promotion is RAC Motoring Services (“RAC”), Registered Office: RAC House, Brockhurst Crescent, Walsall, WS5 4AW (“the Promoter”).
  4. The Promotion is not open to employees (or children of employees) of the Promoter, Aardman Animations Limited or the Department for Transport, including their agencies, its group companies or anyone else connected with the Promotion.
  5. The promotion is open to children between 4-16 years from all state and independent primary and secondary schools from the UK, and registered children’s clubs and associations. 
  6. There can be a maximum of three registered teams from any school, club or association per age group. Age groups consist of ages 4-7, 7-11, and 11-16.
  7. Teams must be made up of children of the same age group and must not exceed 30 in number.
  8. Only one entry per registered team will be accepted.
  9. To enter the Promotion:
    1. To participate in the promotion schools, associations and clubs need access to the internet.
    2. School, associations and clubs must register first on the RAC Road Safety School Challenge animation site at www.rac.co.uk/childroadsafety. By registering you provide your consent and confirm that you are eligible to enter the promotion of behalf of the school, club or association e.g. a Head Teacher, and you agree to be bound by the Terms and Conditions of the Promotion. Upon registration the school, association or club will be given a unique competition entry number.
    3. Set up a Road Safety Team in your age group and do some simple research to understand the key road safety issues in and around your school/ local community.
    4. Using facts and insight from this research, produce an awareness campaign by creating a Road Safety themed short animated film illustrating important road safety practices.
    5. Any forms of animation are acceptable, whether it be 2D drawn, 3D clay models, or anything else you can think of!
    6. We encourage that, “Horace“, the RAC Road Safety Mascot, features in the film although this is not compulsory.
    7. Entries must be no longer than 30 seconds long (including titles and credits if present). There is no minimum length.
    8. The Promotion can only be entered into online by submitting your uploaded entries onto the RAC Road Safety School Challenge animation site at www.rac.co.uk/childroadsafety and nowhere else.
    9. Entries must include the details requested by the Promoter, which includes the title of the entry, the name of the school, club or association, participant’s names and confirmation that all participants in the team are within the same age of the relevant competition category (except for the one teacher/teaching assistant supporting the team entry).
    10. All entries received will be uploaded and posted by the Promoter onto YouTube or Vimeo and will be displayed until xxxxxxx
    11. Many of the submitted animations will also be displayed on www.rac.co.uk/childroad safety
    12. By entering the Promotion you hereby grant permission for RAC Motoring Services to use your entry for publicity. We will always acknowledge the creator.
  1. The closing date and time of the Promotion is 11.59pm on 4th July 2014 (“the Closing Date”). Entries received after the Closing Date will not be considered.
  2. There shall be one winning team in each age group who will receive £1,000 for their school. There will also be one runner up in each age group who will win an animation workshop for a maximum of 35 participants run by Aardman Animations Limited for their school. The Promoter retains the right to substitute the Prizes with another Prize of similar value in the event the original prizes are not available.
  3. Entries will be judged based on factors such as the ability to identify key safety messages, how effective the animation is at teaching us to be safe, the ability to integrate language, sound, movement and props to craft a message and the innovative use of the animation.
  4. The three winning teams and three runners up will be selected by a judging panel in the month of July 2014 comprising the Chief Marketing Officer and CSR Manager from the RAC, Creative Director at Aardman Animations Ltd and Campaign Manager from the Department for Transport.
  5. If your team wins we will ask you to send us the best quality copy of your animation.
  6. The winning teams will be notified by email by RAC within 28 days of the Closing Date and given details of how to claim their prize. If a winning team does not respond to such email within 14 days of the time of notification, then the prize will be forfeited and the Promoter will be entitled to select another winning entry.
  7. The Promoter may ask the participants of the winning teams to provide proof of age.
  8. The winning schools, associations and/or clubs agree to take part in post- promotion activity and will be responsible for getting parental consent for use of photos of the children.  
  9. Entries on behalf of another school, association or club will not be accepted.
  10. The prize is non-exchangeable, non-transferable, and is not redeemable for cash or other prizes. The Promoter accepts no responsibility for any costs associated with the Prize and that are not specifically included in the Prize.
  11. Nothing in these terms and conditions shall exclude the liability of the Promoter for death, personal injury, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation as a result of its negligence.
  12. Subject to the above, the Promoter accepts no responsibility for any damage, loss, liabilities, injury or disappointment incurred or suffered by you as a result of entering the Promotion or accepting the Prize. The Promoter further disclaims liability for any injury or damage to you or any other person's computer relating to or resulting from participation in or downloading any materials in connection with the Promotion.
  13. The Promoter shall not be liable for any failure to comply with its obligations where the failure is caused by something outside its reasonable control. Such circumstances shall include, but not be limited to, weather conditions, fire, flood, hurricane, strike, industrial dispute, war, hostilities, political unrest, riots, civil commotion, inevitable accidents, supervening legislation or any other circumstances amounting to force majeure.
  14. No responsibility is taken for entries that are lost, delayed, misdirected or incomplete or cannot be delivered or entered for any technical or other reason. Proof of delivery is not proof of receipt.  
  15. The decision of the Promoter is final and the Promoter will not enter into correspondence relating to its decision.
  16. The Promoter reserves the right to modify the Promotion at any time without prior notice.
  17. The name of the winning teams and the school, club or association for the Promotion will be available upon request for 8 weeks after the winning teams have been notified by sending a stamped self-addressed envelope to: RAC Road Safety Animation School Challenge,  RAC House, Great Park Road, Bradley Stoke, Bristol BS32 4QN. The winning teams agree to have the name of their school, club or association and participants names disclosed for this purpose.
