Motoring Events in the UK and Europe This Summer

10 Jun 2014 at 12:46

Football not your thing? Let us take you through our guide to the hottest motorsport events this summer in the UK and Europe.

Le Mans 24 Hours

Le Mans, France
14 - 15 June 2014

The Le Mans 24 Hours is the oldest sports car race in endurance racing, dating back to 1923. Quite simply, it’s one of the most famous and compelling racing events on the motorsport calendar.

For 24 hours, the drivers face a physical and mental battle on the Circuit de la Sarthe, France. Audi has effectively made Le Mans its home circuit, dominating the races over recent years.

Goodwood Festival of Speed

Goodwood, West Sussex
26 - 29 June 2014

The peace and tranquility of the West Sussex countryside will once again be shattered when the Goodwood Festival of Speed kicks off with the Moving Motor Show on the 26 June.

The weekend will see usual high-octane mix of F1 cars, supercars, classic cars and of course, the world-famous Goodwood hill-climb. Also look out for Sebastien Loeb, who is aiming to beat the current record time in his Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak car.

MSA British Touring Car Championship

Croft Circuit, North Yorkshire
28 - 29 June 2014

Round six of the 2014 British Touring Car Championship sees the drivers arriving at the Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire.

Look forward to the usual incredibly competitive action, where the likes of Jason Plato in his MG6 and Gordon Shedden in a Honda Civic Tourer are aiming to become the 2014 BTCC champion.

Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix

Silverstone, Northamptonshire
4 - 6 July 2014

The Formula 1 juggernaut rolls into Northamptonshire on the first weekend of July, with the 2014 British Grand Prix.

As we approach the halfway point of the F1 calendar, the Mercedes team is dominating the championship, with Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton having their own private battle. Can Lewis Hamilton repeat his success of 2008 and storm to victory?

Formula 1 Santander German Grand Prix

Hockenheim, Germany
18 - 20 July

A fortnight after the British Grand Prix, the F1 circus arrives at the Hockenheim circuit for the 2014 German Grand Prix. The two-mile circuit is famous for its long straights and multiple opportunities to overtake.

The fastest lap of 1:13.780 dates back to 2004, when Kimi Räikkönen set the record on lap 10 of the German Grand Prix. His joy was short-lived, as just three laps later, he was forced to retire from the race.

Neste Oil Rally Finland

Jyväskylä, Finland
31 July - 3 August 2014

In the years before Sébastien Loeb, and more recently, Sébastien Ogier, dominated the World Rally Championship, Finland was synonymous with rallying success. The likes of Tommi Mäkinen, Juha Kankkunen, Hannu Mikkola and Ari Vatenen are just four names sure to stir the imagination of any WRC fan.

Finnish success on home soil this year is likely to come from either Jari-Matti Latvala or Mikko Hirvonen. It’s a race to to the Finnish. So to speak.

Formula 1 Shell Belgian Grand Prix

Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium
22 - 24 August 2014

Following the Hungarian Grand Prix at the end of July, the F1 calendar makes its penultimate European stopover with the Belgian Grand Prix.

Few circuits are more evocative than Spa-Francorchamps, with Eau Rouge the undoubted highlight of the 4.5-mile track. Sebastian Vettel has stormed to victory in two of the last three Belgian Grand Prix. What he’d give to win again in 2014…

Hertz British MotoGP

Silverstone, Northamptonshire
29 - 31 August 2014

As the summer draws to a close and the holiday season comes to an end, our attentions turn from four to two wheels, with the 2014 British MotoGP.

This year’s event includes a Day of Champions event on the 28 August 2014. Organised by Riders for Health, the day includes a charity auction and a group ride-in, where bikers take to the track.

If you decide to drive to Europe for one of these events we suggest you take out European Breakdown Cover before you for extra peace of mind.
