... Being in an industry that deals with vehicle breakdowns means you tend to go out of your way to avoid using motoring metaphors, but when discussing leading a business it is actually very hard. The successes and frustrations of those at the helm of a company are almost symbiotic with being behind the wheel of a car, the annoyance at too many red lights or being stuck in congestion and, hopefully, that feeling of being on a clear road about to arrive at your destination.

Then there is the much dreaded breakdown scenario, where things can go badly wrong and you have to reach out for help. It’s in those moments you know who your friends are – who will be there to get your engine revving and get you back on your journey. We at the RAC’s Business Services division spend a lot of our time with partners working out the best way to deal with exactly that, often before it even happens.

I am very proud to be part of a growing team whose whole philosophy is about solutions and minimising adverse impact on business. As part of this we have invested a huge amount into technological advancement and are leading the way in innovation with the launch of our pioneering and fit-for-purpose Accident Management service that will fundamentally help large fleets keep on the move more affordably and quicker than ever.

So, while there are still many challenges for UK Plc to overcome (and many driving analogies I will try to keep to a minimum), we look forward to supporting our partners through the years ahead and developing our business services that help Britain keep on the move.
