We’re constantly told that speed is important to getting things done – in work, in life. We demand ever faster broadband speeds and want to be served quicker at the supermarket, so what’s the big deal over an extra 10mph?
Last November saw the announcement of six road improvement schemes that will affect major motorways and A-roads, causing headaches in the short term but aimed at improving life for motorists in the long run.

In the past, when significant events or incidents led to closure of sections of motorway or trunk road, traffic was simply directed on to local roads therefore causing drivers to find their own way back onto the strategic road network. This regularly caused congestion on all routes within the area as well as disruption to local businesses and residents.
