Taking a road trip to Europe? RAC European Breakdown Cover gives you peace of mind on the continent.

Which European breakdown cover option is right for you?

  • If you're going for a trip of 5 days or less, you can choose our basic cover for a single trip
  • If you're going for longer than 5 days, you can choose our comprehensive cover for a single trip
  • If you'll be driving in Europe again over the next year it may work out cheaper to choose our comprehensive annual breakdown cover. You can take any number of trips to Europe over the year as long as they're less than 90 days each

Which countries are covered?

We have a separate cover option for driving in the Republic of Ireland and our other cover options are arranged into two zones, so check which zone you need cover for. Common holiday destinations such as France, Germany and Spain are in Zone 1. See the list of countries in each zone.

What's included with RAC European Breakdown Cover?

Basic European Breakdown Cover - Single trip

Our basic breakdown cover is ideal if you're going abroad for 5 days or fewer.

If you break down abroad you can call our English-speaking staff anytime, night or day. We'll make sure your vehicle is either fixed at the roadside or towed to the nearest garage. We'll also help get you, your passengers and your vehicle back to the UK if necessary.

Comprehensive European Breakdown Cover - Single trip and annual cover

Our comprehensive breakdown cover is ideal if you're taking a single trip of more than 5 days or a number of trips over the course of the year (less than 90 days each).

As with our basic breakdown cover, you can call our English-speaking incident managers 24/7 and we'll make sure your vehicle is either fixed at the roadside or towed to the nearest garage. In addition to this we'll:

  • help cover the costs of accommodation, continuing your journey or getting back to the UK - that's for you and your passengers
  • pay for garage labour of up to £150
  • provide a replacement driver if your only driver is taken ill.

Matters to note

  • the vehicle to be serviced/in serviceable condition before making the trip
  • must not carry more than seating capacity of vehicle as stated by vehicle registration document
  • make sure laws of country travelling to are being met.
