The BMW X5 has held on to the dubious title of being the model most targeted by thieves in Britain, according to new figures.
The figures released by Tracker, which provides devices that increase the chances of a stolen car being recovered, show that the model has now topped the league table for the last five years in a row.
The BMW M3 and Mercedes C Class were the second and third most stolen and recovered cars respectively in 2013, Tracker said, highlighting the importance of having a good car insurance policy in place for prestige car owners.
In total Tracker units helped in the recovery of £8.5 million worth of stolen vehicles last year. Tracker's police liaison officer, Adrian Davenport, said the most expensive car it recovered in 2013 had been worth £90,000.
He added that the fact the average value of the cars recovered fell to £23,600, shows that other motorists are always at risk even if they don't own a luxury car.
Others featuring on the 2013 top 10 list of commonly stolen and recovered cars include the Land Rover Sport, the Audi A4 and the Porsche 911.
