New Discovery Sport will be seven-seater

30 Jul 2014 at 14:41

A third row of seats is set to feature in the new Land Rover Discovery Sport, meaning the vehicle will be able to accommodate seven people, it has emerged.

Promotional pictures showing a camouflaged prototype of the Discovery Sport include graphics showing the two seats in the back row, suggesting the firm is likely to target families when the replacement for the Freelander hits the market next year.

The move will make the model one of the few in the premium compact SUV sector to offer seven seats.

Prototypes are currently undergoing their final set of tests before ahead of the model's scheduled launch in spring 2015.

Land Rover's design director and chief creative officer, Gerry McGovern, says the Discovery Sport will feature seven seats in the UK.

But he says in spite of the configurable seating the model's new version will still be more compact than many traditional five-seater SUVs.
