British manufacturing is celebrating after the newest Mini was named Car of the Year by Auto Express magazine.
The award is a triumph for the UK car-making industry as the latest Minis are built in Oxford, have engines made in the Midlands and body panels made in Swindon.
In addition to scooping the Car of the Year prize, the Mini also drove away with the magazine's Best Premium Small Car award.
Other reasons for British manufacturers to be cheerful include awards for the new Jaguar F-Type, which won the Best Coupé prize, the McLaren 650S, which won Best Performance Car, and the latest Nissan Qashqai, which scooped Best Crossover.
The Safety Award also went to Nissan in recognition of its Safety Shield technology.
Other big winners included the Seat Leon, which was named the Best Compact Family Car, Best Estate Car and Best Hot Hatch.
The Ford Transit picked up the Van of the Year accolade and Volvo surprised many by winning the Design Award via a readers' poll.
