Charity targets dangerous tyre sales

04 Jun 2014 at 15:39

Motorists' lives are being put at risk by the illegal sale of potentially deadly part-worn tyres, a damning new study suggests.

And now TyreSafe, the charity which conducted the research, has joined a drive to highlight the problem at Trading Standards' national conference in a bid to cut the number of dangerous tyres being sold.

Officials manning the campaign group's stand at the three-day conference, which is set to begin at Harrogate International Centre on June 30, will be on hand to tell delegates about the dangers and legal consequences of selling, fitting and using part-worn tyres.

The main theme running throughout the conference is that of changing behaviour, and it will involve enforcement professionals and trading standards officers from all across the UK.

TyreSafe's chairman, Stuart Jackson, said the charity's involvement in last year's conference had resulted in various Trading Standards offices carrying out investigations that had led to arrests and prosecutions, as well as education initiatives.
