How to check tyre tread for wear and identify when to replace your car's tyres.

Explanation of tyre visual check (cracks, splits, cuts etc) including uneven wear
Explanation of tread depth indicator bars (if fitted)
Using a suitable tyre tread depth gauge check the depth of the tyre tread, if the tyre has excessive uneven wear place the gauge on the section with the most wear
Remove the tyre tread depth gauge from the tyre and read the value on the gauge
Cars, light vans and light trailers must have a tread depth of at least 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the breath of the tread and around the entire circumference
If the tread depth is below these figures the tyre will need to be replaced
